Commercial lime plastering and render in Suffolk
Traditional commercial buildings and conversions may need compatible lime finishes rather than a standard modern plaster build-up. We work with architects, builders and owners on lime plaster and render, using compatible materials and allowing for the slower curing lime needs.

When it’s the right choice
- Barn and building conversions
- Heritage and listed building refurbishments
- Older commercial premises with solid walls
- Repairs specified by conservation officers or architects
Scope
- Internal lime plaster
- Lime base and finish coats, to the specified mix.
- External lime render
- Breathable render for solid walls, finished to the agreed texture.
- Repairs
- Like-for-like repairs to existing lime work.
- Removal of unsuitable materials
- Where specified, removing cement or gypsum and replacing with lime.

Things to know
- Consents
- Listed building and conservation requirements are site-specific and confirmed by the client and their advisers.
- Curing time
- Lime needs longer between coats and protection from frost and fast drying.
- What affects the price
- Area and quantities, specification, access and working hours, programme and phasing, and how much of the work needs to be done around other trades.
- Drying is not the same as curing
- Lime products do not all cure in the same way. The binder, coat thickness and conditions determine the programme. Fresh lime work needs protection from frost and rapid drying, and the decoration must be compatible with the chosen lime system and the building.
Questions about lime work
Yes, for approval by the client or conservation officer.
Ask us about your projectYes. We’ll raise any questions on mixes or details before starting.
Ask us about your projectIt cures slowly and is weather-sensitive, so allow more time than for gypsum.
Ask us about your projectYes, where the existing laths can be retained or repaired.
Ask us about your projectNot by itself. A compatible lime finish can help a traditional wall manage moisture, but leaking gutters, ground levels, rain penetration and other moisture sources still need addressing. Assess the cause before deciding what material should be removed.
Ask us about your projectFollow the lime and paint suppliers' guidance for the actual products. Curing, drying and suitable decoration timing vary with binder and conditions. Breathable limewash or an appropriate mineral finish may suit, but do not assume every paint labelled breathable is compatible.
