Venetian plastering for homes in Ipswich
Venetian plaster is built up in thin, burnished layers so the wall has depth, movement and a soft marble-like look. It’s a decorative finish for a feature wall, fireplace, hallway or bathroom area where you want the wall itself to be the focal point.

When it’s the right choice
- Feature walls in living rooms and bedrooms
- Chimney breasts and alcoves
- Hallways and stairwells
- Bathroom walls outside the direct water zones
- Homeowners who want something more characterful than paint
Venetian effects
- Marble effect
- Layers trowelled in different directions to create veining and depth that changes with the light.
- Soft cloud finish
- A calmer, low-contrast look with gentle movement, easier to live with in a smaller room.
- Colour
- Colours are tinted into the plaster, so tone varies naturally across the wall. We’ll agree the colour from samples.
- Sheen level
- From a soft satin to a higher burnish, depending on the look you want and the room’s light.
What the work involves
- 1
Samples first
We discuss the look you want and agree a sample board so you can see colour and movement in your own light.
- 2
Prepare the wall
The base must be flat and sound. That may mean a skim before the decorative coats go on.
- 3
Build the layers
Several thin coats are applied and worked, then burnished to the agreed finish.
- 4
Protect
A suitable sealer or wax may be applied depending on the system and room.

Things to know
- What we call Venetian
- We use “Venetian” for the layered, marble-style techniques worked in thin coats and burnished. Tell us the look you’re after and we’ll say whether it suits your wall.
- Wet areas
- Not every Venetian plaster is suitable for showers or splash areas. Suitability depends on the actual product and sealing, and we’ll be clear about that.
- Every wall is unique
- It’s hand-applied, so it won’t look identical to a photo or sample. That’s part of the character.
- What affects the price
- Wall area, the effect chosen, the number of coats and the preparation needed. Decorative work is priced per job.
- Agree the product, not just the look
- Venetian finishes vary in composition, texture and sheen. A reference photograph helps establish the look, but the actual product, background preparation and protective finish determine suitability and care. Samples should be viewed in the lighting where the finish will be used.

Ask us about your projectSome products and sealers are suited to bathrooms away from direct water. We’ll tell you what is and isn’t appropriate.
Ask us about your projectThe decorative layers are thin and will not straighten a poor background. Loose material and cracks need dealing with, and the wall may need levelling or skimming before the specified primer and decorative coats are applied.
Ask us about your projectPreparation, access, the wall area, selected product, number of layers and desired effect all affect the quote. Include a photo of the wall, dimensions and a reference for the finish. Complex shapes and high-level work also change the amount of work involved.
